The role of Subak in Bali





  Subak is a community organization that has a special role to regulate the irrigation system used in paddy rice cultivation in Bali . Subak usually has a temple called Pura Uluncarik , or Pura Bedugul , specially built by the landowners and farmers dedicated to the goddess of prosperity and fertility , the goddess Sri . The irrigation system is governed by an indigenous leader who also was a farmer in Bali .

In Bali , the Subak has chaired the organization called pekaseh . Pekaseh with farmers , ranchers , also managing water-related activities are always doing good planning and implementing irrigation for rice fields , fish ponds , including clean water with very fair through deliberation ( sangkep ) .

Subak is mainly used in irrigation systems . In this system each villager in charge of regulating the distribution of water , maintain and repair irrigation , pest eradication activities , agricultural innovation , and enable the activities of religious ceremonies .
